Shrimp – Runaway (DatPizz Exclusive)

Shrimp – Runaway (prod. JakeBlaze)

When one thinks of the Atlanta sound, the first thing that comes to mind is probably trap. From the beginning of the scene with Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, to TI’s Trap Musik all the way to the sound of today with Gucci and Migos, the one thing that has stayed cemented is that the ATL is full of drugs. Recently however, a new Atlanta sound is on the come-up. One that is not afraid to share their feelings through melodies and voice. One of the strongest of this new movement is a young artist named Shrimp. Producing and rapping, Shrimp and his clique are pushing forward with a new style, one more focused on emotion. On the new track “Runaway”, Shrimp lay out the image of a budding relationship and what can happen when two people fall in love. It is rare that an artist opens himself up to be weak, losing their persona as a tough act. But as he begs his girl to watch the sunset with him, listeners can’t help but feel for Shrimp, as most of them have surely been in a similar position. Producer JakeBlaze offers a beat to perfectly compliment the heartbreak, with heavenly synths being contrasted with a strong bass and hi-hat feel. The track has such a trap feel, only to get listeners caught up in their feelings. This is part of the brilliance of Shrimp, the seemingly oxymoronic sound that somehow comes together perfectly. Keep an eye on him as he continues his ascent into the forefront of the Atlanta scene.

Hylas Geist Discography

Hylas Geist is a rapper and member of Legoset that is a bit different from our normal artists. Originally starting in the boom-bap scene back in the early 2000s, Geist eventually took a break feeling discouraged. However, upon hearing the new SoundCloud scene and artists like Lil Soda Boi and especially Slug Christ, he decided to pick back up the baton. Geist gets inspiration not only from rappers, but also from vocalists such as Thom Yorke, helping him bridge the gap between rock and rap vocals. Geist makes his music straight from the soul, and even though he may be a bit older than many in the game, he hopes that some of his wisdom will come through to the listeners and inspire them in their times of need.

DJ Smokey Discography

DJ Smokey is a producer and one of the few Canadians on the site, repping his town of Hamilton, Ontario. Smokey tends to keep an aire of mystery about himself, but we DO know that he can make some crazy beats. Smokey started experimenting with beats in High School, but what ultimately inspired him to put his beats online was seeing Metro Zu reach some success. Naturally, Smokey was very excited to later work with Zu’s members to make some hard bangers. Smokey is a big rep for positivity, even to the point of starting the #positivitygang. Smokey’s music has the drugged out sound that is perfect for anyone looking to sit back and chill.

After his uncle and cousin encouraged him to hop on a beat he quickly proved his skills and, with the encouragement of his cousin, made a name for himself. One of Xen’s biggest inspirations is Lil B, which gave him the courage to be himself when making music. murph Discography

murph is a rapper and skating fanatic coming to us from Atlanta. After getting kicked out of school and listening to some Chief Keef, murph figured that he should give making music a shot. We can be glad he did, as he is making a name for himself, even getting the chance to open for one of our personal favorites; Slug Christ. Besides Keef, murph’s influences range from Lil’ Wayne to even alternative bands like Blink 182 and Fall Out Boy. Claiming that he is setting “the new bar for Atlanta” when it comes to sound, we can’t wait to see where murph decides to take it from here.
